Paul Warnes
Head of Digital, Individual Life
What is your role at TAL?
As the Head of Digital for Individual Life at TAL, I work closely with advisers, partners, and customers to lead the strategic direction of all public facing digital applications and platforms.
My focus is on creating tools that are intuitive and effective, supporting advisers to deliver the best possible value to their clients. I also collaborate across the business to explore innovative ways we can use technology to improve outcomes for everyone involved.
At the heart of my role is building trust and strengthening partnerships—ensuring that advisers feel supported and empowered by the tools we provide, while helping customers access tailored life insurance solutions and expert advice with ease.
What is your professional background?
I have been in the IT and software engineering field for 25 years, working across industries like finance, education, and commerce in the UK and Australia. Over the years, I’ve held roles as an engineer, team leader, and manager, each of which has shaped how I approach my work.
What role do you play in helping to support advisers to deliver value for their clients?
Supporting advisers is a key priority for my team. We manage the TAL Adviser Centre, making sure it runs as smoothly as possible and keeps up with what advisers need as technology, life insurance and customer expectations evolve.
We also work on improvements and adding new and impactful features to the platform, so it can act as a helpful tool and improve the adviser experience.
Our goal is to reduce complexity, giving advisers more time to focus on what matters most: building relationships with their clients and providing exceptional advice. Whether it’s simplifying processes or offering digital solutions that enhance efficiency, we aim to be a true partner to advisers in delivering great outcomes for their clients.
How do you see the life insurance industry changing in the next 5 years?
The insurance industry is always evolving, and the next five years will bring exciting opportunities and challenges - with that comes many changes that require fast adaptation and planning. I see two big trends ahead:
- Smarter, more personalised policies – Technology like AI and data analytics will help insurers understand risks better and create policies that are tailored to each person.
- A focus on overall financial wellness – Life insurance will increasingly become part of a bigger picture, helping people with tools and resources to plan their financial future, not just their insurance needs.
How do you think your role will evolve over the coming years as the industry changes?
Adapting to change is key. My role will continue to centre around keeping our technology secure, reliable, and adviser-friendly. I will also be focused on using advancements like AI responsibly and ethically to create tools that support advisers while maintaining trust. Partnerships with advisers will remain central to our business, ensuring that digital solutions align with their evolving needs and help them deliver even greater value to their clients.
Tell us something that’s guaranteed to brighten your day (what’s something that made you smile recently?)
Everyday when I get home from work, my dog always comes to greet me at my front door, tail wagging and all. That never fails to put a smile on my face!
