Jason Bamford
National Sales Development Manager
What is your role at TAL?
As the National Manager of Education and Propositions at TAL, my role is about finding practical ways to support advisers and licensees. This includes overseeing programs like the TAL Risk Academy and platforms like the PY Manager, which aim to equip advisers with the skills and tools they need.
I work with a great team to create training and resources tailored to different roles in the advice profession. We also collaborate with TAL’s licensee, technical, and sales teams to ensure what we deliver is useful and relevant to advisers’ needs.
Ultimately, we’re focused on helping make financial advice more accessible for Australians. It’s rewarding to be part of a team that brings so much experience and knowledge to the table, and we’re always looking for ways to contribute to the advice community.
What is your professional background?
I’ve spent the past 20 years in a variety of roles - from marketing and product development to claims, innovation, and account management. I’ve also had the chance to work in a few different countries along the way. All of these experiences have helped me build a diverse skillset, which I now use in my current role.
What role do you play in helping to support advisers to deliver value for their clients?
In my role, I focus on understanding the challenges advisers face and finding practical ways to support them. Whether it’s developing resources, offering training opportunities, or improving processes, my aim is to help make their jobs a little easier and their advice more impactful.
I also believe in the importance of ongoing learning for both advisers and the profession. Supporting initiatives that encourage this helps ensure we’re all better equipped to meet the needs of clients and navigate the changing landscape together.
How do you think your role will evolve over the coming years as the industry changes?
As we approach the 10-year anniversary of the TAL Risk Academy in 2025, I reflect on how I have seen the initiatives change in line with how the profession has changed. Right now, we want more financial advisers feeling confident providing life insurance advice and I see my role supporting this.
From a personal perspective, it's important to continually be learning and developing. I've recently completed my Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning which has been a fantastic experience to learn across different areas of advice and to work with financial planners and new entrants. It won't be long until I find my next challenge although I will enjoy for a period having a few earlier nights without the extra study.
Tell us something that’s guaranteed to brighten your day (what’s something that made you smile recently?)
I have two daughters, Georgia and Bonnie. It took some time, but I finally got my youngest to ride her bike while we were on holiday. I love sports and have been looking forward to a family bike ride for a long time. I think it’s finally about to happen!
