Updates to Body Mass Index (BMI) ratings

Following an analysis on our approach to underwriting BMI, we are pleased to offer some improved outcomes for customers with higher BMI ratios.  This forms part of our evidence-based approach to underwriting, learning from our experience and making adjustments.

We have extended the BMI range to allow standard acceptance up to a ratio of 34, when there are no other health factors contributing to the customer’s overall risk profile. After this, we will require medical tests to be performed and ratings may be applied, particularly in the presence of other health factors or family history of heart disease or diabetes.
