Meet David Arthur who we spoke to as part of our Meet the Team Series. With over 20 years of experience in the insurance sector, David is dedicated to driving impactful technological solutions that support advisers and deliver exceptional value to clients.

What is your role at TAL?

As the General Manager of Technology & Delivery at TAL, I oversee the strategic implementation and delivery of technological solutions across the organisation. A key part of my role is ensuring that our technology infrastructure enhances the overall experience for advisers and their clients. By focusing on both technology and delivery, I make it my mission that our solutions are not only innovative but also effectively executed to meet the needs of our adviser partners, stakeholders, customers, and people alike. This will only help to enhance digital trust with everyone engaging with us.

What is your professional background?  

I have over 20 years of experience in the insurance sector, working across various regions including the UK, Europe, South Africa, India, Singapore, and Australia. My career began at an insurance company in Scotland, where I gained foundational industry knowledge. I then moved into technology and strategy consulting with IBM and EY, where I focused exclusively on the insurance sector. Throughout my career, I have been particularly interested in the 'human' side of business and technology – particularly the way technological advancements can enhance human interactions and experiences.

What role do you play in helping to support advisers to deliver value for their clients?

Our mission at TAL is to make it easier for advisers to do business with us. That is why I am passionate about prioritising and implementing the most impactful technology enhancements that are designed with the user in mind.

By streamlining processes, reducing administrative burdens, and providing supportive resources, our aim is to enable advisers to focus more on delivering value to their clients.

My priority is to understand the needs of our advisers and clients and translate those needs into technological solutions that make their workflows more efficient and effective.

What are you most excited about in your role for the coming 12 months?

Our digital ambition is supported by the entire organisation, which significantly supports my ability to drive impactful technological initiatives. This backing allows me and my team to push forward with innovative solutions that will transform how we operate and interact with our advisers and their clients. The next 12 months will be transformative, with a strong emphasis on digital enhancements that streamline our operations and improve service delivery.

How do you think your role will evolve over the coming years as the industry changes?

I foresee my role evolving on several levels as the industry continues to change:

• Market engagement: Our technology teams will spend more time in the market with customers and advisers, gaining deeper insights into the evolving environment and adapting our solutions to meet new challenges.
• Industry integration: There will be an increasing need to integrate with industry platforms that make life easier for advisers and their clients. Collaboration with platform providers and industry players, all aiming to simplify business processes, will be crucial. I am passionate about working with these organisations to achieve our common goals.
• Emerging technologies: Embracing new technologies and AI capabilities will be crucial for boosting productivity and eliminating administrative burdens from our daily tasks. By staying at the cutting edge of technological innovation, we can continue to deliver exceptional value to those around us.

Tell us something that’s guaranteed to brighten your day? What’s something that made you smile recently?

Spending time with my daughter always brightens my day. Recently, I’ve found joy in swimming, which is a great way to unwind. Moments like these remind me of the simple pleasures in life and keep me motivated both personally and professionally.
